All about procedure

Labioplasty or labia correction procedure is part of aesthetic gynecology. However, it is not always an aesthetic consideration to perform the procedure. Often, patients with the problem of overgrown labia complain of ailments such as frequent and recurring intimate infections, discomfort when playing sports, abrasions and micro-traumas.

Labioplasty is a procedure that allows us to correct the shape or reduce hypertrophied labia. It is used in the case of large labia, asymmetry and other factors that the patient reports as a complaint. The primary function of the labia is to protect the external genitalia of a woman. Usually, the most common problem is the enlargement of the labia. This causes disorders in their proper functioning, which can disturb not only the aesthetic appearance of the genitals, but also in normal life.

In addition to genetic conditions that have a significant impact on the appearance of the labia, the reasons for the inappropriate appearance of the labia may be:

  • deformity due to delivery / deliverIes
  • damage to the perineum due to delivery or injury,
  • damage due to sexual intercourse.

Before the planned surgery, the necessary examinations should be performed to determine the patient’s state of health. These include:

  • morphology,
  • blood coagulation factors (APTT / INR),
  • creatinine level,
  • electrolyte level (Na-sodium, K-potassium).

In case the procedure will be done in general anesthesia, on the day of the procedure, do not eat or drink for a minimum of 6 hours.

The procedure involves removing excess skin folds of the vulva mucosa, which is the cause of discomfort and a feeling of discomfort in women. This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia or shallow sedation (short intravenous anesthesia). The advantage of local anesthesia is that the patient can leave the hospital on the same day.

There are two operational methods:

TRIM technique – is the most commonly performed operational method. It involves cutting and leveling the edges of the labia and allows them to be significantly reduced. The advantages of this method include the freedom to obtain labia shape.

The WEDGE technique is also called wedge resection. It allows you to leave a natural edge and color the labia. Both techniques used during labioplasty are individually selected for the patient and her requirements.

The best time to do this is about 2 days after your period so that the post-surgical wound has time to heal. The recovery process takes place at home.

After the procedure, an extremely important aspect is proper post-operative wound care. After each bowel movement, wash the intimate area with a mild cleanser to prevent infection of the wound. For a period of about a week, it is recommended that the patient does not stay in a sitting position – the best is a semi-recumbent position or sitting on a special wheel with a cut-out in the middle (pressure ulcer circle). Sexual absence should be at least 3 weeks after surgery. If you have pain, your doctor may recommend that you take painkillers. After partial healing of the wound, oiling of the intimate parts is recommended.
